An act of kindness from both parties turned into a voracity, but who is to blame?
On November 2017, a homeless guy who goes by the name of Johnny Bobbitt has given the last of his money of $20 for gas to a stranded motorist on the side road in Philadelphia, her name is Kate McClure.
After this implausible act of kindness on behalf of Bobbit, both Kate MacClure and her boyfriend Mark D’Amico decided to return the favor they were given by creating a Gofund me account for him. The act he has done has grasped the hearts of more than 14,000 people of the Gofundme users and $400,000 were raised in his name.
The story has caused an outbreak on social media at the time, however the ending wasn’t a happy one for Bobbit. He didn’t receive all his money, the couple claimed that the reason they are withholding the rest of it is that they are concerned about his drug abuse problem. They believe he spent the money they gave him on drugs instead of rebuilding his life back up. So, they decided to dispense the rest of his money once he is drug free and has a permanent job.
However, after not receiving the whole amount from the couple, Bobbit decided to take the matter into his own hands by taking both to a New Jersey court. He accused the couple of mismanaging the funds raised for him, nevertheless they have denied all accusations.
Once in court, the couples and Bobbit had their differing claims. The couples say that they have provided Bobbit with more than $200,000 of the funds. On the other side, Bobbit said that he has only received the amount of $75,000.
In court, after all allegations were pointing towards the couple the superior court Judge Paula Down has ordered them to transfer the remaining of the money to Bobbit, however later the court learned from Chris Fallon Bobbits lawyer that no money has been received from them and that the money has vanished.
Burlington County said a “search warrant was executed early this morning by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Florence Township Police Department at the residence of D’Amico and McClure in connection with a criminal investigation into the Johnny Bobbitt matter.”
A Black BMW was seen being towed away and a bag of items from the premises of the couple.
Dow promised Bobbit that he will receive the amount he deserves and Gofundme team is also working on the matter with law enforcement to ensure he receives the money raised in his name.
“I am not allowing you to be their voice anymore,” said Dow to the couple
To guarantee the money will be used the right way this time once available, it will directly be sent to Bobbit’s lawyer and it won’t be used until told how to manage it from the judge.
